Super Eagles striker disclosed that while he was at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, he needed to consult a psychologist to get help for his mental health problems.

Cyriel Dessers' lack of playing time in Belgium forced him to leave Genk in 2021 in favour of a loan at Feyenoord.

However, the Nigerian striker found it difficult to settle in as Bryan Linssen was the current established starter and had competition.

Dessers acknowledges that, as a result of his early difficulties, he became psychologically exhausted and needed assistance.

Dessers told Het Nieuwsblad, per Feyenoordpings, “That conversation took a huge burden off my shoulders. I don’t think I should have waited much longer. I think I was really close to a kind of burnout at that point.

“I started scoring then and I never really stopped after that and my career just kept going up. I think I owe that to that conversation to a large extent. I still talk to him every month.”

Seemingly, Dessers benefitted from hiring a psychologist. In 41 games throughout that season, he scored 20 goals and provided four assists.

With nine goals, he led them to the UEFA Europa Conference League final. That season, he also led the tournament in goals scored.

Meanwhile, Cyriel Dessers was the hero as Rangers kept their Champions League hopes alive against Dynamo Kyiv.
