Tinubu Sacks Five Ministers, Appoints Seven, Reassigns 10 Others

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu implemented the much-awaited cabinet reshuffling on Wednesday, with the sacking of five ministers, the appointment of Bianca Ojukwu and six others, and also the redeployment of Doris Uzoka-Anite and nine others to other ministries.

The action is the implementation of eight far-reaching actions to reinvigorate the Administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency according to his commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians which involved the restructuring of the federal cabinet leading to the scrapping and mergers of some ministries.

The eight actions approved by President Tinubu include the renaming of the Ministry of Nigeria Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee the activities of all the Regional Development Commissions. The Regional Development Commissions to be under the supervision of the new Ministry are the Niger Delta Development Commission, the Southeast Development Commission, the Northeast Development and the Northwest Development Commission.

Another is the immediate winding up of the Ministry of Sports Development and the transfer of its functions to the National Sports Commission in order to develop a vibrant sports economy, while the Federal Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture have been merged to become the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy.

Others are the re-assignment of Doris Uzoka-Anite from the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment to the Finance Ministry as the Minister of State and also nine other ministers to new ministerial portfolios.

Other nine ministers that have been reassigned are Yusuf Tanko Sununu Minister of State, Education to Minister of State Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Morufu Olatunji Alausa from Minister of State, of Health to Minister of Education, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Minister of State, Water Resources and Sanitation to Minister of State Works and Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh from the Minister of Niger Delta Development to Minister of Regional Development.

Also reassigned are Uba Maigari Ahmadu, Minister of State Steel Development to Minister of State Regional Development, John Owan Enoh, Minister of Sports Development to Minister of State Trade and Investment [Industry], Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim Minister of State, Police Affairs Minister of Women Affairs, Ayodele Olawande Minister of State for Youth Development to Minister for Youth Development, Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye Minister of State, Environment to Minister of State, Health

The Seven ministerial nominees for onward transmission to the Senate for confirmation are Nentawe Yilwatda for Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour & Employment Federal Ministry of Labour & Employment, Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu as Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Idi Mukhtar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State Education.

Shehu Dikko was also appointed as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission while Sunday Akin Dare is now the Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation working from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

The ministers who have been discharged are Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Lola Ade-John, Tahir Mamman, Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, and Jamila Bio Ibrahim
