Verstappen Hints At Formula One’s Exit After Swearing Controversy

Max Verstappen has revealed that he could quit Formula One if the sport’s governing body stopped him from having fun while racing.

He is currently under fire for swearing at a press conference at the Singapore Grand Prix on Thursday, and he was ordered stewards to do “work of public interest” with the FIA.

Verstappen described the penalty as ‘super-silly’ on Sunday, while also repeating the same thing finishing second in the race behind McLaren rival Lando Norris.

He has opened up on the reason he described the punishment as super silly.

“This kind of thing decides my future as well,” he said. “When you can’t be yourself or you have to deal with this kind of silly thing.

“I think now I’m at the stage of my career that you don’t want to be dealing with all the time.

“It’s tiring. Of course, it’s great to have success and win races but once you have accomplished all that, winning championships and races, then you want to just have a good time as well.

“If you have to deal with all these kinds of silly things, for me, that is not a way of continuing in the sport, that’s for sure. For me, of course, at one point, when it’s enough, it’s enough. And we’ll see. I mean, like I said, racing will go on.
“F1 will go on also without me. It’s not a problem. But it’s also not a problem for me,” he said
Verstappen believes he is being prevented from showing his authentic side.

He concluded: “If you can’t be yourself, like to the fullest, then it’s better not to speak, that’s what no one wants because then you become a robot and it is not how you should be going about it in the sport.”
