Council gets legislative building

The Igbogbo Baiyeku Local Council Development Area in Lagos State has inaugurated a modern Legislative and Administrative Building.

Speaking on Tuesday at the unveiling of the building, the Chairman of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, Olusesan Daini, explained that the decision to build the structure was to institutionalise the legislative arm of government in the LCDA.

He emphasised the importance of the legislative arm in formulating progressive policies and bylaws, saying, “What I’ve done is to enshrine what the Constitution provides – that for a government to function effectively, there must be executive and legislative arms.

“Today, we have ensured that the legislative arm of government is firmly institutionalised in the  Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, and one of its primary functions is to develop progressive policies and bylaws.”

The council chairman explained that bylaws were crucial for ensuring the well-being of the people, saying, “Without proper laws, their execution and implementation, sound policies, community feedback, stakeholder engagement, and robust legislative activities, good governance cannot be achieved.”

“The key to delivering quality service to the people lies in effective administration through both the legislative and executive arms. What we have done today is ensure that the constitutional responsibility of proper governance is upheld in Igbogbo Baiyeku.”

Daini added that governance was not just about providing food but also about enacting laws that improve agricultural activities and ensure food security.

The Council Leader of the LCDA, Alimi Alowenle, said the newly built legislative building would significantly enhance legislative functions.

He said the architectural quality and conducive environment of the structure would foster creativity, innovation, and better decision-making among legislators.
