Full Lists: States Paying Above N70,000 Minimum Wage

In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu approved an increase in the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000 for Nigerian workers. However, the implementation has varied across states, with some yet to adopt the new minimum, while others have gone beyond the federal mandate, offering higher wages.

Here are the states that have pledged to pay above the N70,000 minimum wage:

– Lagos State: On October 16, 2024, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a new minimum wage of N85,000 for Lagos workers, citing the city’s high cost of living. He also aims to raise the wage to N100,000 by January 2025.

– Ogun State: Governor Dapo Abiodun approved a minimum wage of N77,000 on October 15, 2024, as confirmed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi.

– Gombe State: The Gombe State government, in agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress, raised the minimum wage to N71,451.15 on October 14, 2024.

– Ondo State: On October 12, 2024, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced a wage increase to N73,000 during his campaign launch ahead of the November 16 gubernatorial election.

– Kogi State: Governor Usman Ododo approved a N72,500 minimum wage for state civil servants, effective immediately, and suspended the tax on this new wage for a year.

Several other states have agreed to adopt the N70,000 minimum wage:

– Anambra State: Governor Chukwuma Soludo confirmed that the state will begin paying N70,000 starting October 2024.

– Katsina State: Governor Dikko Radda committed to implementing the new wage.

– Ebonyi State: Governor Francis Nwifuru approved the N70,000 minimum wage for state civil servants in September 2024.

– Adamawa State: Governor Ahmadu Fintiri approved the new wage for state and local government workers in August 2024.

– Oyo State: Governor Seyi Makinde expressed readiness to implement the wage once issues around consequential adjustments are resolved.

– Borno State: Governor Babagana Zulum announced that payment of the N70,000 wage would start in October 2024.

– Osun State and Benue State have also shown readiness to implement the new wage.

However, some states, including Jigawa, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa, have not yet announced plans to adopt the new minimum wage.
