The Gombe State Government has reached a significant agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Gombe State University chapter, clearing the path for the institution’s reopening.

Led by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, the government’s Negotiation Team concluded discussions with the union, ending the impasse that had kept the university closed.

ASUU Zonal Coordinator, OA Timothy Namo, confirmed that the union accepted all terms discussed during the negotiations, paving the way for academic activities to resume within the next week.

Dr. Jatau praised the efforts of both the government and ASUU for their dedication in resolving the dispute swiftly. He expressed optimism that this peaceful resolution would strengthen future cooperation, helping to ensure uninterrupted academic sessions.

The agreement follows the state government’s earlier commitment to improving the welfare of university staff by approving funds to address outstanding issues, further underscoring its support for higher education in Gombe.

The university is expected to reopen soon, bringing relief to students and staff after the prolonged closure.
