Barcelona star Pau Cubarsí has on Friday confirmed his intention to spend his entire career with the Catalan club just like legendary defender Carles Puyol.
Despite only being 17 years, Cubarsi is now considered one of the first names on the team sheet in Catalunya’s capital.
Long lauded for his abilities both on and off the ball, Cubarsi has featured from the off in all but one of Barcelona’s fixtures across all competitions this season.
He is widely viewed as the future of Spanish defending, expected to play a leading role at club and country level alike for the coming decade and beyond.
All of a Barca persuasion, in turn, will no doubt be delighted to hear that the stopper, for his part, only has eyes for one club when it comes to his plans moving forward.
Speaking in an interview with RAC1 on Friday, Cubarsí was drawn on his happiness in Blaugrana colours, and went on to explain:“[My role models are] Puyol and Pique, although I didn’t see Puyol play much,” he told RAC1.
“I hope I can spend my entire career at Barça like them, even though Gerard was only at Manchester United for a short time at the beginning,” he said.
He went on to predict that his fellow youngster Lamine Yamal will one day win the Ballon d’Or award.
“Lamine Yamal can win the Ballon d’Or. Everyone now sees who Lamine is, but I’ve known him for a long time. He has the skill set required to achieve it.”
