A 40-year-old man, Uche Joseph, was arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, on charges of theft.

Joseph, who has no fixed address, was accused of stealing a Plasma TV and three play stations, all valued at N254,000.

The alleged theft happened on August 31 at about 4:00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

The prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, informed the court that the stolen items belonged to one Oke Bukola. He further stated that the offence contravenes Section 302 (1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Joseph pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Inspector Adejare however requested the court to adjourn the case, stating the need for time to study the case file and gather witnesses.

Meanwhile, the defence counsel, Mrs. Joy Raphael, urged the court to grant Joseph bail, assuring that he would not jump bail.

Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N60,000, with one surety of the same amount. The case was adjourned until October 18 for hearing.
