NFF launches three-category monthly awards to celebrate Nigeria’s best football talent

The Nigeria Football Federation has announced the introduction of its NFF Monthly Awards designed to recognise exceptional Nigerian footballers across various leagues, including the Nigeria Premier Football League, Soccernet.ng reports.

With the football season now in full swing, these awards will honour players who have delivered standout performances on the pitch monthly.

The awards feature three main categories: Player of the Month (Male & Female), Goal of the Month, and Discovery of the Month.

According to the NFF, the nomination process for the awards will be thorough and scientific. An independent organisation will analyse player statistics throughout each month, ensuring an unbiased and data-driven selection of nominees.

This approach guarantees that only the most deserving players—those whose contributions have made a significant impact—are recognized.

Nominations for the inaugural awards will be announced on 3rd October, 2024, after which voting will be opened to both fans and journalists.

Fans will be able to cast their votes via the official NFF voting portal at www.thenff.com, with their input accounting for 40% of the final decision. The remaining 60% will be decided by journalists and football industry professionals.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, expressed his excitement about the new initiative:

“The NFF Monthly Awards are a key part of our efforts to further elevate Nigeria football, not only by recognizing outstanding talent but by engaging with fans and the media in a way that brings the football community closer together.”

Sanusi further added: “We believe that this initiative will encourage excellence on the field and foster a deeper connection between players and their supporters.”

Voting for the first round of awards will be open from 3rd October until midnight on 7th October.
