NSCDC operatives accused of k!lling youth leader in Ondo community

There is tension in Bature community in Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State over the alleged k!lling of a youth leader, Faturoti Eric, following an unlawful raid by men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). 

The NSCDC personnel were seen fully armed and attempting to make an unlawful arrest, which led to resistance from members of the community.

The NSCDC opened fire on the unarmed community members, leaving Mr. Faturoti Eric lifeless.

The group, in a statement by Sekoni, a brother of the Oloja of Leege, claimed that the incident was incited by a group of individuals, namely Bala, Salisu, and Folorunso Ronke Olufemi.

“We are peace-loving people; we are law-abiding,” Sekoni stated.

The community pleaded with the state Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served.

"If the government does not take the necessary action over this case of the gruesome murder of one of us, we will be forced to protest and block major roads in Odigbo until justice is served,” Sekoni added.

Reacting, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, described the allegations as untrue.

Aidamenbor said the taskforce was on a lawful duty to apprehend some suspected illegal miners in the area before they were attacked by the suspects with gunshots.

"Somebody actually died during gun duel and, it was because there was an attack on the security agencies and, they have to also find their way out of the place. It was in the defense that he died.“

The NSCDC Spokesman however promised to release more details of the incident as soon as the officials involved are debriefed.
