The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, on Thursday, confirmed the death of an employee of a new generation bank identified as Mr. Victor Udensi and two others in Umuahia assuring that the perpetrators would soon be brought to book.
The CP who disclosed this while parading some suspects at the police headquarters in Umuahia, explained that Udensi had stopped at the Isi Court area of Olokoro in Umuahia South on Wednesday when three armed men operating in Keke accosted him at about 8 pm, attempted to bundle him inside his car boot.
However, he said Udensi resisted them and as he was running to escape, the assailants fired shots at his back, leaving him in a pool of his blood.
The assailants unsuccessfully tried to start his car and move away and accosted another unsuspecting driver with a Toyota Camry.
“As they attempted to forcefully collect his car key, the driver resisted the armed men. They however did not take this lightly as they shot at him, killing him instantly,” he disclosed.
Our correspondent gathered that while escaping towards Ubakala, the gunmen in a bid to escape ran into a Keke (tricycle) that they felt was inhibiting their escape and shot the driver dead.
An eyewitness to PUNCH Metro that passersby rushed the banker to the hospital but he could not make it, as he was pronounced dead shortly after treatment started.
