Nigerians hold a memorial for #EndSARS protest victims in Lagos

The organisers of the August 1 #EndBadGovernance in Nigeria have announced their plans to partake in the memorial procession for the late victims of the October 20, 2020 #EndSARS protest.

The #EndBadGovernance organisers released a statement informing Nigerians of the memorial’s schedule, including prayers, laying of a wreath and a procession to remember those who died for this country and its people.

On October 20, 2020, the federal government shot and killed many Nigerians at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State during the #EndSARS protest against police brutality.

Oil marketers and NNPC reach an agreement with a new fuel price of ₦955/litre

Oil Marketers and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) have concluded the price of the ex-depot of petrol after weeks of negotiation.

The two parties negotiated for weeks, either refusing to relent or not, without the Department of State Services (DSS) intervening.

The ex-depot fuel prices are now ₦955/litre after being declared to be ₦1,010/litre. Though the price may not reflect in retail filling stations, this agreement will eliminate queues nationwide.

Governor Fubara announces ₦85k minimum wage for Rivers State workers

The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his approval of ₦85,000 minimum wage payment to Rivers State workers, following in the footsteps of the Lagos State government announcement.

According to the governor, all civil workers in Rivers will be entitled to a minimum wage payment of ₦85k despite the general new minimum wage being ₦70k.

“Thereafter, we had a fruitful meeting with Labour Leaders in which we agreed on the 85,000 naira minimum wage, effective November. Our workers will be better off for it,” he declared.

US officials request that Biden declare Binace executive as a hostage in Nigeria

Having been held captive in Nigeria for months, 18 state attorneys in the United States of America have demanded that President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken declare that the detained Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, is a hostage in Nigeria.

The Attorney Generals submitted a joint letter as Tigran, a US citizen, is standing trial with Binance Holdings Limited for alleged money laundering at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

“We must act decisively to ensure his safe return to his family before it’s too late. It is our duty to advocate for U.S. citizens abroad, and we urge the federal government to apply the necessary diplomatic pressure to secure his release,” the letter to Biden reads.

DSS hits SERAP with a ₦5.5 billion lawsuit over alleged false claims

The Department of State Services (DSS) has hit the Socio-Economic Rights Accountability Project (SERAP) with a defamation lawsuit for allegedly accusing the DSS officials of invading its (SERAP) office in Abuja.

The ₦5.5 billion lawsuit filed by Sarah John and Gabriel Ogundele, DSS officials, stated that the accusations by SERAP have negatively affected the public image of the DSS.
