U-17 WWC: Olowookere Savours Flamingos’ Victory Over New Zealand

Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere has reflected on his side’s victory over New Zealand.

The West Africans started their campaign at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a comfortable 4-1 victory over the Young Football Ferns.

Shakirat Moshood got Nigeria in front after two minutes, while Taiwo Adegoke doubled the lead 11 minutes later.

Fareedat Abdulwahab’s brilliant lob caught the goalkeeper off guard in the 28th minute to make it 3-0 in the first half.

Taiwo Afolabi netted the fourth goal 10 minutes into the second half.

However, New Zealand pulled a goal back through Hannah Saxon on the hour mark.

“It’s a good first game for us. We are taking them as they come, so a good game for us, scoring four goals and only conceding one, so not bad for our first game,” Olowookere was quoted by FIFA.com.

The Flamingos will take on Ecuador in their next game on Saturday.
