Why is Tiwa Savage, the ex-queen of Afrobeats ‘famzing’ with an American non-entity like Rubi Rose?

The entertainment scene thrives off feedback. The artist engages in a motion and expects feedback from the fan base and is reminded that he or she is on track when this feedback is received.

Whether it comes from fans listening to the music and posting it, to trending on social media or bookings, feedback is necessary. One artist who hasn’t had a lot of feedback in a while is Tiwa Savage.

Tiwa Savage seems to be past her prime and suffering from relatability and connectivity issues. Yes, we know her. She was once the queen of the genre.

She gave us countless hits for years. She held it down properly in a period when the biggest African superstars were men. However, she has struggled in recent times. Quoting Davido, “we no dey hear her gbedu again”.

Did she become too old for the game? Did she transition from Queen to Queen Regent properly? Why did her brand and music suffer so badly? We’d never know.

We’ve never really had a queen regent of the genre before, I guess. Nonetheless, in a season where the old heads are transitioning into a parental phase in the music space, Tiwa Savage is noticeably absent from the conversation.

Fans were taken by surprise when videos surfaced on social media showing Tiwa ‘hosting’ and partying with foreign rapper Rubi Rose and being her host in the country.

Videos showed Tiwa taking Rubi around Lagos, attending events and witnessing the nightlife space of the city while shaking their booties everywhere they went.

On one hand, it’s great that our female superstars are hosting other global female superstars in the country. A while ago, it would have been Davido hosting Rubi, and anyone else who came. On the other hand, it’s not so great that our current queens can’t be found in this equation.

X users have been very bullish about her actions, and understandably so. Apart from the time she fought Davido, this is the only other time in a long while that Tiwa has been in the conversation, for anything.

People do not talk about her music anymore, they don’t even try to drag her, they just her be.

Tiwa seems to be very desperate for attention and clout and has been milking this more than normal. She’s been the more active person in the conversation. People talk about Tiwa more than they talk about Rubi.

Most of the conversations around her have been negative. People now call her an Old Taker, a term used to describe a person who used to be dominant in a particular field but is now dormant.

Many scold her for being very sexual in clips online. Dancing, shaking her backside, and drinking alcohol, they reprimand her, reminding her that she’s now a mother and she shouldn’t be hanging out with people like Rubi Rose at wild hours.

She’s struggling, grasping. Her latest release titled ‘Forgiveness’ doesn’t seem to be in conversations and trending on music platforms. It’s a bit obvious she needs this. This is feedback.

This is response and engagement. People are genuinely interested in this side of her. From the ones who think she’s forcing the bad gyal aesthetic to the ones who feel she’s wasting her time.

Though she’s come under a lot of fire recently for hanging out with Rubi Rose, I think we should cut her some slack. She needs this. She needs the conversations.

The organic tweets. The interest. The feedback. All the OGs in her set are transitioning beautifully into active legends, dropping hits once in a while. She’s not. She dropped a movie that went without of the conversation.

Her Water and Garri EP didn’t make headway. If all she has to be in the news again is shaking her ass with Rubi Rose, allow her.

Tiwa Savage’s career and brand are at a dicey point right now. She either transforms into a legend the way her mates are or suffers the consequences. If you were her, you’d probably twerk as much as possible too.

You’d host whoever is trending, whether the person is deserving of such or not. Considering how strong Rubi Rose’s community is online, I’d do it. I’d do more. Especially if I don’t have a white garment that I do not want to stain, I’d do more.

If my sex tapes could be leaked and distributed for no real reason, then I mention it in a verse, i wouldn’t hesitate to host a ‘rapper’ that has some form of traction and is popular on OnlyFans. I would reach for straws.

Though it’s not so nice that one of the most boujee babes on the planet is being hosted by one of our oldest artists, I’d like everyone to cut Tiwa some slack.

Let her be.

There’s not much she can do. Allow her leverage on this trend. Let her be a boujee babe once again. My only advice to her is to make sure it converts to music because that’s all that’ll last at the end of the day.
