You Can’t Sing Against Oppression And Be One, Adedeji Tells Burna Boy

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju has sent a message to Grammy Award-winning artist Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu (a.k.a. Burna Boy), stating that he cannot sing against oppressors while being one himself.

Adeyanju stated this on Tuesday via a post on X regarding the recent discovery of social media influencer, rapper, and commentator Darlington Okoye (a.k.a. Speed Darlington), in police custody.
Adeyanju revealed that Speed Darlington was arrested following a petition filed by Burna Boy.

In a statement on his social media page, Adeyanju said they spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington.
He narrated how Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos last Friday and was moved around before eventually being taken to Abuja, where he has been in detention since then.
”We can confirm that the petition against him was written by Burna Boy,” he said.

He further said, “You can’t sing against oppressors and still be an oppressor.

“We are now involved in the Speed Darlington matter. We will do everything to get him freed.

“Nobody should be arrested by the police for expressing their views or opinions. We urge the authorities to stop the clampdown on freedom of speech in Nigeria.”

Speed Darlington’s troubles with Burna Boy began after he accused the former of having an affair with an American rapper, P Diddy, who was recently arrested over sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

He insinuated that Burna Boy allegedly won the Grammy after he had an affair with the American rapper, an allegation the Nigerian musician did not take kindly to.

Darlington’s mother, Miss Queen, has pleaded with Burna Boy to temper justice with mercy and pardon her son.
