Dubois Defeats Anthony Joshua To Retain IBF Title

Britain’s Daniel Dubois produced a stunning performance to defeat Anthony Joshua with a fifth-round Knockout victory to retain his IBF title at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

He ended Joshua’s dream of becoming a three-time heavyweight world champion with a sensational performance at a record-packed Wembley.

Joshua struggled to find his feet in the bout as he was knocked down four times before Dubois finished him off with a right blow to the chin in the fifth round.

In a dramatic fifth round, Dubois was momentarily stunned by two right hands, and just as Joshua looked to pile on the pressure, the 34-year-old was caught by successive right hands, and he was down again, this time unable to beat the count.

Dubois was excited to earn a vital win at Wembley to keep his record at 21-4, describing it as the biggest moment of his life.

He said: “I’ve only got a few things to say, man. Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained?”

“It is the biggest moment of my life; God had something planned for me, and my dad has been there every step of the way, getting me through to this point. Without him, I wouldn’t be here.

“I was a bit lukewarm but as I got into it, I just felt it was my time now, it’s my time, and I couldn’t let this opportunity go.”

Joshua, who suffered his fourth defeat of his career is unwilling to give up and has promised to keep fighting.

He said: “Before I came here, I always say to myself, I’m a fighter for life; you keep rolling the dice. I had a fast and sharp opponent, a lot of mistakes from my end.”

Dubois won the interim IBF title in June and was elevated to world champion status when Usyk vacated the belt.
