Victor Boniface asks Nigerians to reassure his grandmother after Airport ordeal in Libya

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has pleaded with Nigerians to contact his grandmother and let her know he is safe, following the team’s difficult experience in Libya.

The Nigerian national team faced mistreatment upon arrival for the second leg of their 2025 AFCON qualifier. After their flight was unexpectedly redirected to Al Abraq airport, the team, along with officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), spent over 15 hours stranded at the airport without food or proper rest.

Boniface’s Message to His Grandmother

Boniface took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration and request help. He wrote:
“Help me call my grandmother say her grandson Dey ok. Nah, this is sick.”

The 23-year-old forward stressed the importance of reassuring his grandmother that he is doing well despite the unpleasant situation.

Players Refuse Libyan Transportation

Boniface also shared a video showing the bus provided by the Libyan FA to transport the team, which he jokingly referred to as an “Isakaba” bus—a term referencing an old Nollywood vigilante film, often used to describe rundown vehicles.

However, the team reportedly refused to board the bus, citing concerns over its poor condition and lack of comfort.

NFF Seeks CAF Intervention

The NFF has formally reported the incident to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and is still awaiting a response.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles remain stranded at the airport as efforts continue to find a solution. The delay has disrupted the team’s preparations for their crucial qualifier against Libya, which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15.
